This may not be the best game in this list overall, but it definitely has the best atmosphere

Hi, my name is ColdBeer and let’s start with The Solus Project This may not be the best game in this list overall, but it definitely has the best atmosphere.

And the alien world it throws you into is absolutely stunning.

For me the world of Solus brings out some nostalgic memories from the sci-fi short stories I read when I was a teenager.

It has some weird Ray Bradbury vibes of a beautiful but really menacing world.

You know, the alien ruins are scattered everywhere and some of the weird machines are still working despite the fact that all the aliens are long gone.

Visually this game is stunning.

Gameplay-wise it’s a bit of a different story.

No, it’s not a bad game by any means, but The Solus Project is a hardcore survival title and that may not be for everyone.

It has all the nasty survival elements you can think of.

You are affected by cold, thirst, hunger, various events of an alien planet and many other features that at first may feel annoying, but overall helps you highly immerse into the gameplay.

Or you know, more likely, instead of immersion you just die.

Over and over again.

Although keep in mind that if you die often enough and this mechanic is not for you – you can just turn all this survival bullshit off.

Yeah, The Solus Project just lets you play casually.

Of course you immediately lose all the immersion, but you can explore the surroundings, solve puzzles and enjoy interesting story.

So here you will explore through 5 islands and 5 large tomb-caves.

All handcrafted, no procedural nonsense here.

The campaign itself will take about 25 hours to finish.

Breathedge This is an ironic outer space survival adventure game where you will take on the role of a simple guy called the Man.

You are carrying your grandpa’s ashes to a galactic funeral and suddenly find yourself in the middle of a universal conspiracy.

A massive space hearse wrecks in deep space, leaving the area filled with debris, coffins, dead passengers and yourself.

Now you have to survive in this interstellar dump, uncover a global conspiracy, save the princess and prepare for a good dose of nice humor.

Like really, this game is ridiculous.

Breathedge uses the same mechanic as Subnautica, except everything is happening in space.

And it’s not as good as Subnautica, but it’s quite enjoyable for several hours.

Raft Build the raft of your dreams and sail into the ocean! That may look like the whole point and story of this game, but your mission is to survive an ocean adventure across dangerous waters! And that won’t be easy.

Here trapped on a small raft with nothing but a hook made of old plastic, you awake on a vast, blue ocean totally alone and with no land in sight! With a dry throat and an empty stomach.

You will have to gather debris to survive, expand your raft and be wary of the dangers of the ocean! You may play the game alone, which is perfectly fine, or with your friends if you have any.

Also with creepy strangers as well – that would add to immersion, don’t you think? Imagine, you are on the Titanic, it sinks and you have to share the boat with a dude who obviously thinks of killing and eating you.

Immersion over 9000, right? So, can you cannibalize your friends here? Well, sadly no.

Even if you are very hungry you will have to eat fish and other stuff you manage to catch.

No cannibals here.

But.

with the next patch, who knows? The Forest and Sons of the Forest So, speaking about cannibals – here you will find plenty of those.

There are two games in the series and the first part called The Forest is one of the most beloved games on Steam overall.

I’m not kidding – it has almost 400 thousand reviews and an Overwhelmingly positive score.

So here alongside the sandbox part, where you cut the trees, build cute houses, lay traps and freeroam this beautiful world there is this aforementioned cannibal part of the game.

You have to defend yourself against a clan of genetic mutant enemies that have beliefs, families, morals and appear almost human.

Except that they want to kill and eat you.

Second part of the game, called Sons of the Forest, was recently released in Early access and the game was so popular it literally crashed Steam and people had to wait for their turn to buy the game.

So far it has a very positive review score left by tens of thousands of people and the price is really nice.

I imagine that they could just make it 60 dollars or Euros and ride the wave of popularity, but the price of the game is just half of that.

The Long Dark When I look outside my window into the vast wilderness of Northern Eastern Europe I realize that I don’t need games like that.

I live in one of them.

Snow, ice and cold rules my land and only the power of my heater keeps me alive.

I have to pay 100 euros per month for it, but you, it’s worth it.

Not dying is great.

And for the rest of you, who are way more lucky with the climate, I should probably say that this game, despite sometimes being very relaxing.

is kinda hard.

You will starve, you will be thirsty, you will be cold and you will be eaten by a bear.

Still while being alive, screaming and kicking, you know, with the rest of your body that is still not eaten at the moment.

So with this joyful note I must stress out that this is an amazing survival game with more than 90% of positive reviews on Steam.

People are talking that this is an artistic masterpiece and one of the best games of this genre.

The Planet Crafter The game is still in early access, but it already has an Overwhelmingly positive review score on Steam.

The adventure here starts literally the same as in Subnautica and in many other alien planet exploration games – you are falling from space in a tiny capsule that will be your only home and link to humanity.

You manage to land with all your body parts intact and may start exploring unfriendly nature around you.

Well, alright, I ain’t gonna lie – in The Planet Crafter you ain’t gonna find any hostile enemies, it’s a very relaxing game where you don’t have to worry about creating new weapons to defend yourself from large alien monsters.

Nothing like that.

Here you have to gather minerals and resources to survive.

And craft all the tools you’ll need in order to fulfill your mission – which is – to terraform this planet and make it habitable for humans.

And half of humanity has boobs.

So.

just saying.

A noble goal.

Also keep in mind that it’s not just a crafting game – you will explore old crashed ships and ruins and discover a planet full of mystery.

If interested, keep in mind that you can play the demo version on Steam for free.

No Man’s Sky Developers say that here you can become anything you want.

But it’s obvious that you can’t become a pirate giraffe with palm trees instead of legs.

Or an ocean filled with pink shoes.

You can’t become an ocean here.

So realistically speaking you have limited choices of what you may become, but in general this game lets you choose from many different paths.

Will you be a fighter, preying on the weak and taking their delicious potato salad by force or a merchant who will find rich resources on forgotten worlds and exploit them for the highest prices.

Or maybe an explorer? Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before.

Like, you know, whiskey without a hangover.

Nobel prize guaranteed.

That’s not how the Nobel prize works.

Oh shut up.

So in general No Man’s Sky procedurally generates the whole universe.

It’s still a bit smaller than yo mama, but it will be enough for you to dive in for a few days at least.

Or maybe more.

A lot of people who left comments on Steam have from about 20 to 150 hours of playtime.

You can also play it in VR mode, although it’s not a requirement by any means.

Astroneer Game is set during the 25th century Intergalactic Age of Discovery.

Here Astroneers explore the frontiers of outer space, risking their lives in harsh environments to unearth rare discoveries and unlock the mysteries of the universe itself.

In this space sandbox adventure you can work together with other players to build custom bases above or below the ground, create vehicles to explore a vast solar system, and use terrain to create anything you can imagine.

So basically you are invading beautiful planets with beautiful nature and making an industrial hell out of them.

Yeah, screw nature, the galaxy is full of it.

People on Steam are saying that here you are your own worst enemy.

You will fall off the cliffs, touch deadly plants and forget something at your base that is half a galaxy away.

Yeah.

Anyway, very positive reviews are here for a reason, almost everyone loves the game and there is a huge chance that you will love it as well.

Outer Wilds Almost everyone who has played Subnautica and Outer Wilds are saying that these games have a lot in common.

Exploring vast space in Outer Wilds is really similar to exploring the vast ocean in Subnautica.

It was named Game of the Year 2019 by Giant Bomb, Polygon, Eurogamer and The Guardian, so that alone should grab your attention.

If it grabs something else or somewhere else, call the police.

Here you’re the newest recruit of Outer Wilds Ventures, a space program searching for answers in a strange, constantly evolving solar system.

You will have to find out what lurks in the heart of the ominous Dark Bramble.

Who built the alien city on the Moon? Well, obviously aliens, but you know what I mean.

Can the endless time loop be stopped? And why is potato salad so delicious? Answers await you in the most dangerous reaches of space.

Game has overwhelmingly positive reviews, so you can’t be wrong with this one.

Satisfactory Here you will defeat nature by building massive factories everywhere.

Expand wherever and however you want.

Without any annoying regulations we have here on earth.

Because you are not on Earth anymore.

All those animals and plants that live here are scientifically unimportant.

They live to serve you and your factory.

Here you will find about 30 square kilometers, which is about 11 square miles of terrain filled with unique flora and fauna.

You can recycle everything and make factories out of them.

Build beautiful metal constructions instead of ugly nature, cover the whole surface of the planet with your elegant conveyor belts and train tracks! Make that pathetic natural habitat disappear and make beauty instead.

Be a true hero of the industrial era.
